Paula Marie Grube of Groesbeck passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at Hillcrest Hospital in Waco, at age 63. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. – with visitation beginning at 1:00 - on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church in Groesbeck. Reverend Steve Nance will officate the service. Paula was born September 9, 1954 to John H. and Helen Marie (Wetzel) Grube in Waco. Paula played in the GHS band and was the drum major, as well as active in volleyball and basketball. She graduated from Groesbeck High School in the Class of 1973. After receiving a bachelor’s degree from Sam Houston State University in 1977, her first job was working with hearing-impaired children in various local schools through the Corsicana Co-op. Paula taught science at Groesbeck Middle School for the next thirty-three years, with countless local students going through her class. She also was the cheerleader sponsor, attending all the games, and providing friendly counseling to the girls. She had a good sense of humor and enjoyed providing laughs with special costumes and on occasion acting as “E.B. Ledbetter.” Coach Driscoll called her Coach Grube because she also was the middle school girl’s basketball coach. Paula had lived at home with her parents until her mother passed away, and then built a house in town. She enjoyed her yard, gardening - raising flowers (she loved pansies) and tomatoes; and the fishpond which she built. She provided a loving home for some years for her brother, John, and was his caregiver while his health was declining with MS, as long as he was able to live there. Paula had many life-long friends and was active in class reunions. She enjoyed spending time with her niece Sarah; they were very much alike, both being strong-willed. She loved to go fishing, something she had enjoyed since childhood with her Dad. Her nephew Jarrod was her special fishing partner, and she also enjoyed fishing with her friends. On one outing at Richland Chambers Lake with a friend, their boat broke down in the lake, and Paula fixed the boat right there in the middle of the lake. She was always good with tools and could fix anything, using her scientific mind in everyday life. She also enjoyed camping, and would sleep in the back of the car. Paula was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church of Groesbeck and served on the Mission Outreach Committee. She loved singing in church and had a beautiful voice. She had loved to sing since being in the elementary school play dressed as a rose. She was a member of the Texas Retired Teacher’s Association, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, and a member of the Cynthia Ann Garden Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Helen Grube and her brother, John H. Grube, Jr. Paula is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Glenda and Charles “Bubba” Stone of Kosse; niece, Sarah Marie Stone of Austin; nephew, Jarrod Lee Stone of Midland; nephew, Roger Grube of Dawson; nephew, Dan and his wife Heather Grube of Coolidge; great nephew, John Henry Grube of Coolidge; and her aunt, Shirley Grube of China Spring. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Groesbeck.
