Sharon Diane (Thompson) Brown, of Oglesby and formerly of Mexia, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at St. Catherine’s Hospice in Waco, at age 57. Visitation will be held at Groesbeck Funeral Home on Friday, March 30, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Old Union Cemetery, with Pastor Darron Killingsworth of First United Penecostal Church of Groesbeck officiating. Pallbearers will be Bubba Easley, Jerry Simpson, Harlan Gressett, and Wallace Allman. Sharon was born December 17, 1960 in Dallas to Lynn Randall Thompson and Reba Alyine Capps Thompson. She grew up in Houston and graduated in the Class of 1979 from M. B. Smiley High School, where she had been on the drill team and was a cheerleader her Junior year. Right after high school, Sharon entered nursing school at Herman Hospital in Houston, and became a licensed LVN. She worked in the nursing field the remainder of her life. Sharon moved to Mexia in 1981 and was a nurse at Mexia Hospital and later at Mexia LTC up until her health problems became so serious that she moved to her Mother’s home in Oglesby. Sharon was a very family-oriented person, as is all of her family. She loved her children and enjoyed being with the little grandchildren at birthday parties and family gatherings. She was also a pet lover, feeding many wild cats throughout her life, and most recently enjoying her puppy, Rooster, who is missing her as are all her family. Sharon was preceded in death by brothers, Ricky Lyon and Gaylin Lyon (both of Mexia); maternal grandparents, Ed and Bertha Capps; special cousin, Rhonda “Cricket” Brown; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Reba and John “Poppy” Gomez of Oglesby; daughter, Brandy Brown of Canton; son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Alyssa Brown of Canton; son, Cody Brown of San Diego, CA; grandchildren: Natalie Fasang, Ashton Fasang, Paisley Chadwick, McKenna Brown, and Grayson Rose – all of Canton; niece, Kaylynne Lyon of Killeen; aunt and uncle, Doris “Aunt Doodle: and Ray Tates of Tyler; nephew, Tyler Lyon of Kilgore; uncle, James Capps and Sissy of Mart; a host of cousins; and her puppy, Rooster.
