James "Jim" Samuel Jones

James Samuel “Jim” Jones, recent resident of Groesbeck, and formerly of Lexington, Tennessee, went to be with Jesus, on Saturday, March 31, 2018. He passed away peacefully at Groesbeck LTC Nursing Home, at age 82. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. at the Church of Christ in Bargerton, Tennessee on Friday, April 6, 2018. Burial will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 7 at Stanton Cemetery, in Stanton, Kentucky. Jim was born April 1, 1935 to Chester Roy Jones and Alma Lucille (Hutchins) Jones in Dayton, Ohio. He grew up and attended school in Dayton. Jim was united in marriage with Tresia Genevee Adams in Dayton, Ohio in November 1954. They moved to Texas for Jim to attend college in Lubbock, TX at Sunset School of Preaching. Following college he entered the ministry. Part of his ministry included he and Tresia serving as house parents at childrens’ homes in Texas and Kansas. Jim preached at Churches of Christ for 40 years in Ohio, Michigan, North Carolina, Kansas, and Tennessee. He mentored other young men to become preachers, especially his future son-in-law, Clif Fox. He baptized Clif when he was seventeen and a few months later Clif became part of his family when he and Brenda were married. Clif serves as the preacher at the Church of Christ in Groesbeck, TX. Jim’s life reflected his service of compassionate ministry. He provided generous benevolence outreach wherever he preached, involving food pantries and feeding the hungry, and disaster relief. He was involved in organizing relief for two of the major hurricanes in the area, assisting many families during their desperate hours. Jim retired from preaching in 2010. He moved to Groesbeck during the past year to be close to daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Clif Fox and their family. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Alma Jones; wife, Tresia G. Adams Jones; and daughter, Pamela J. Jones. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Brenda K. and Clif Fox of Groesbeck, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Timothy R. and Sandy Jones of Athen, TN; son and daughter-in-law, Terry L. and Terri Weikert of MI; son, Thomas G. Weikert of Greensboro, N. C. His thirteen grandchildren are: Nathan Fox, Amber Wood, Taylar Caldwell, Ian Jones, Zack Jones, Rachael Jones, Bradley Martin, Austin Martin, Dakota Garrison, Jennifer Hoban, Lea Weikert, Christerfer Weikert, and Matthew Weikert; and he also has fourteen great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sunset School of Preaching (for aid to financially struggling students), mailed % Church of Christ, P. O. Box 512, Groesbeck, TX.
