Michael Floyd McCracken

Michael McCracken, of rural Thornton-Groesbeck, passed away suddenly on Friday, January 1, 2010, at the Limestone Medical Center. He was 65. A Memorial service will be held at St. Timothy’s Anglican Church in Houston, with the date and time to be announced later. Michael was born May 5, 1944 to Floyd E. McCracken and Mary (Wright) McCracken in Boise, Idaho, where his Dad was stationed in the Air Force. He grew up in Texas, attending school in Houston, and the University of Texas. He played football for two years for the University of Texas. Michael was united in marriage with Nancy Steinmann on April 19, 1980 in Harris County. Michael was a salesman for various industries during his career; he was a talented salesman who could sell anything. He worked the past ten years for O’Reilly Automotive in the Central Texas area, retiring in 2008. Prior to retirement, he and Nancy bought land in Limestone County near Thornton and built a home, where they moved in 2007. Michael loved being with his family, and had many additional interests, including golf, football, fishing, racing, restoring old cars, and all things automotive. Michael was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Nancy McCracken of Thornton; daughter and son-in-law, Meagan and Chris Patton of Tomball; son, Scott McCracken of Tomball; five grandchildren, Andy, Layne, Melody, Raylynn, and Christopher; sister, Patricia McCracken of Pearland; brother and sister-in-law, John and Maura McCracken of Richmond; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Gloria McCracken of Missouri; and sister, Jody George of Little Elm; eight nieces, four nephews, 1 great niece, and 2 great nephews.
