Dwight Reece Sims, of Groesbeck, passed away on Friday, September 24, 2010, at the Groesbeck LTC Nursing Facility, at age 84. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, September 26, at the Groesbeck Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, September 27, 2010, at the Lost Prairie Cemetery, with Reverend Tracy Sims officiating. Dwight was born on March 11, 1926, to Doyle K. Sims and Blanche Irene (Baldwin) Sims at Mount Calm, Texas. He grew up at Lost Prairie and attended school at Fair Oaks. When Dwight got out of school he moved to Freeport to work for Dow Chemical. Dwight was united in marriage with Dorla Vene Pruitt on July 3, 1948, at Groesbeck. Around 1950, during the Korean conflict, he entered the U. S. Air Force, and he and Dorla lived in various states during his four years of service. After the service, Dwight and Dorla lived 8 years in Cleburne, where he worked as a salesman for Reynolds Tobacco Co., and then they moved to Temple where he sold insurance for Farm Bureau. They moved back to Groesbeck in 1965, where he opened a used-car business and sold cars for 15 years. Dwight decided to go into the furniture business, and when he could not find an available store building in Groesbeck, he opened his store in Marlin. Dwight was in the furniture business there for 17 years, and Dorla had a dress shop in Groesbeck. Dwight also was a cattleman; going to Lost Prairie, to tend his cows was his great pleasure. Dwight always said “the only way to Heaven was through Lost Prairie.” He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorla Sims of Groesbeck; son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and JoAnn Sims of Teague; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Sean and Jenny Sims of Austin; great granddaughter, Josephine Sims of Austin; brother and sister-in-law, Billy Dwain and Tommie Faye Sims of Shiloh; and nephew, Charles Sims and his wife Shelia of Shiloh.
