Mary Deuel Budde, of Groesbeck, passed away Thursday, October 28, 2010, at the Windsor Healthcare Residence, at age 91. Visitation will be Friday, October 29, 2010, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Groesbeck Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 30, 2010, at Faulkenberry Cemetery, with Reverend Tracy Sims officiating. Mary Deuel was born January 21, 1919 to Jessie Leonard Price and Della Jane (Bradshaw) Price in Coolidge, TX. She was called Deuel as she was growing up, named by her father after a Biblical name in Numbers. She grew up and graduated from high school in Coolidge. Mary was united in marriage with Cyril Otto Budde on September 10, 1940 in Kerens, and they moved to Groesbeck in 1940, since his family had a bakery in Groesbeck. She worked for Cayton Drugstore until Cyril passed away in 1961. She was then appointed to the office of District Clerk to fill his unexpired term, and it was then that Judge Ferguson insisted she be called Mary D. Mary D. filled the office of District Clerk for 36 years, until she retired in 1997, and was opposed in only one election, which she won. During her tenure on the second floor of the courthouse, the records of many trials and legal proceedings passed through her office, and she worked with many lawyers, judges, law enforcement officials and the public. Mary D. was a member of the American Legion Auxillary,and an active member of the First Baptist Church of Groesbeck. Mrs. Budde was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Cyril Budde in 1961; her two brothers, Lester Price of Mexia and Thelbert Price of Navasota; her sister, Lorene Price of Groesbeck; and her son, Fred Lynn Budde, who passed away in 2000. She is survived by her daughter, Joy Budde of Groesbeck; nieces, cousins, and many friends.
