Sharon Joyce (Smedley) Coker, of Kosse, passed away at Limestone Medical Center on Wednesday, December 15, 2010, at age 75. Visitation will be Friday, December 17, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Groesbeck Funeral Home. Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 18, 2010, at the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend David Snow officiating. Burial will follow at the Seale-Round Prairie Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Shane Smedley, Kevin Nickels, Joshua Nickels, Joey Coker, David Winstead, Andy Nickels, Chase Sturdivant, and James Edwards. Sharon was born on January 17, 1935 to Guy Smedley and Ruby Anna (Hicks) Smedley at Campbellsburg, Indiana. She grew up and attended school there, and when she was 19, she met and married Marvin Sidney Coker while he was stationed there after he had returned from his tour of military service in Korea. They lived in Indiana until he was discharged, and then moved to his family home in Seale, Texas. She lived in and around Limestone County, Texas the remainder of her life. Sharon spent her life as a homemaker, raising 6 children, which resulted in a large family of grandchildren and great grandchildren. The grandchildren remember the time spent with her baking cakes, and especially remember her readiness to “cut switches” when needed. Sharon loved outdoor activities including mowing her yard and fishing, and also enjoyed refinishing furniture, reading, working crossword puzzles, and loved to cook. And she loved going to Walmart as the highlight of her week. She was a very great fan of the Dallas Cowboys and did tolerate anyone criticizing them at all. She was a member of the Oletha Baptist Church. Mrs. Coker was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin Sidney Coker in 1994; a son, Mark Coker; grandchild, Shannon Horton; great grandchilren, Cody Horton and Gary Smith; and son-in-law, Billy Hays. She is survived by a daughter, Kathie Woods of Panama City Beach, Fl; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Jackie Nickels of Shiloh; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Kim Coker of Bremond; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Jimmy Jefferson of Kosse; and daughter, Jenny Hays of Mexia. Her large family includes 15 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
