Alma Snow-Stewart, of Oletha, passed away at Windsor Healthcare Residence on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at age 97.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at the Oletha Baptist Church.
Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Oletha Baptist Church, with Reverend Bill Sutton officiating. Burial will follow in Bethesda Cemetery at Marquez.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Copeland, Jared Winstead, Ryan Winstead, Monty Stewart, Patrick Stewart and Braden Stewart.
Honorary pallbearers will be Elbert (Butch) Hughes, Colter Copeland, Stran Copeland, and Flint Noey.
Alma was born along with her twin sister on the family farm in Marquez, Texas on July 8,1927 to Green Snow and Ina Williams Snow. The twins, Alma and Inez, were number 3 and 4 to six siblings. She worked alongside her siblings and lived a typical country life. She attended school in Flynn, Texas.
May 16, 1942, she married Fred D. Copeland, Jr and together they had 3 children, Roy, Alma and Billy, and she raised them in Marquez. In the early 60's, Alma moved to Devine, Tx where her sister Inez lived. She worked at Walgreens in San Antonio and Lieberman's department store in Devine. Alma decided she wasn't finished raising children and had two more, Gary and Brian. In 1978, she moved with her husband, Franklin Stewart, and Gary and Brian to Oletha, Tx. She worked at Groesbeck ISD for 12 years as a bus driver and in the cafeteria. She retired at the end of the school year in 1990.
Alma was a loving mother and grandmother and always took care of her family. She was a member of the Oletha Baptist Church for 46 years. The church and her church family were very special and dear to her.
Alma was preceded in death by her parents, Green Snow and Ina Williams Snow; an infant son, Frederick Leon Copeland; son, Billy Ray Copeland; first husband, Fred (Suggie) Copeland, Jr, and her second husband, Franklin Stewart. Also passing away before Alma were her brothers, Edgar Snow and Olin Snow, twin sister, Inez McClary, and another sister, Martha Jean Garner.
She is survived by her sons, Roy Lee Copeland and Brian Stewart of Marquez and son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Denise Stewart of Marquez; daughter and son-in-law, Alma and Butch Hughes of Old Union; and a brother, Buren Noey of Marquez. Her grandchildren are: Alaine and husband Trent Long, Cynthia Hughes, Kenneth Copeland and wife Kelley, Sherry Copeland, Elaine and husband Mike Butler, Jaime and husband Toby Derrow, Jared Winstead and wife Carlee, Ryan Winstead and wife Taylor, Monty Stewart and wife Adriana, Patrick Stewart, Kayla Stewart, and Braden Stewart; and also 15 great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
