Amy Renee Johnson, of Groesbeck, passed away at home on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at age 49. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 26, 2018 in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Chaplain Jon Honea officiating. Amy was born September 25, 1968 to Donald Gene Johnson and Jo Ann (Hall) Johnson in Houston. She attended school in Houston until the family moved back to Limestone County when she was 16. She graduated from Groesbeck High School in 1987. Amy then attended McLennan Community College, taking business courses. Earlier in her career, Amy worked for doctors in Mexia in insurance billing. For the past fourteen years, she worked for Groesbeck ISD in the office of the maintenance department, and also was a bus driver on Route 19. Due to health problems, she took medical retirement a few months ago. Amy and her sons lived at Personville across the pasture from her parents, and she and the boys have been the “world” to their grandparents, as well as her sister and family. She loved going to the beach at Surfside and liked to fish. She also enjoyed being a “picker” (like the TV program), finding old things, repurposing them, and giving them away to family and friends. She also was skilled at wood-burning, making name signs and pictures on wood. Amy was a member of the Prairie Grove Baptist Church. She will be very greatly missed by all of her family and friends. Amy was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Floyd L. and Vida Johnson and her maternal grandparents, C.R. and Edna Hall; and her great-aunt, Virginia Sealey. She is survived by her sons, Logan Wyatt McGilvray and Ethan Lane McGilvray, of Groesbeck; her father and mother, Donald Gene and Jo Ann Johnson, of Groesbeck; sister and brother-in-law, Lara Dianne and Patrick Wayne Kimbrell of Groesbeck; nephews, Samuel Garrett Alewine, Patrick Wayne “Patty” Kimbrell, and Odus James Kimbrell and niece, Chloe Opal Kimbrell, all of Groesbeck. She is also survived by the father of her sons, Joseph A. McGilvray, Jr. of Highlands; and her great-uncle, Leon E. Sealey of Gainsville, FL.
