Barbara Juanita Carpenter, of Centerville, formerly of Oletha, went home to be with the Lord, her husband and two of her sons on Friday, June 26, 2020.
Visitation will be held prior to services on Monday morning, June 29, 2020 from 10-11 AM at Cobb Cemetery Pavilion. A graveside service will begin at 11 AM under the pavilion with her brother, Rev. Bill Sutton officiating.
Barbara “Barb” was born April 25, 1939 in the family home at Thornton, to William Earl Sutton and Della Blaylock Sutton. She was the oldest of nine children. She grew up in Oletha and attended school in Thornton.
On January 7, 1956, when Barbara was sixteen years old, she was united in marriage with Robbie Wayne Carpenter. They moved to Clute, and soon their family began. Barb spent many years as housewife and mother of four children. Robbie built the home they lived in for many years in Brazoria.
Barb was a member of the First Baptist Church of Clute and then Wild Peach Baptist Church, and she was a Sunday School teacher. Barb was a cancer survivor for the past thirty plus years. She was a leader of a group of friends who shared similar medical problems, and she visited in hospitals to encourage others going through their own medical issues.
Barbara and Robbie moved to Lake Limestone where they lived twenty years. She attended the Oletha Baptist Church. Barb worked in the administration office at the hospital in Groesbeck for around ten years. She and Robbie later moved nearer their daughter in Brazoria. Barb as well as her daughter and son-in-law moved to Centerville three years ago, after Hurricane Harvey flooded their homes in Brazoria. Barb loved her family, and especially loved her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Sue Sutton; son, Danny Lee Carpenter in 1985, and son Sonny Wayne Carpenter in 2015; and her husband, Robbie Wayne Carpenter in 2011.
She is survived by her son, Ken Carpenter of Clear Lake; daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Bob Buckalew of Centerville; and seven sisters and brothers (and their spouses): Earline Iles of Joshua, Peggy and Rainer Clewis of Groesbeck, Bill and Beverly Sutton of Groesbeck, Kay O’Connell of Bullard, Sandy and Ronnie Dabney of Italy, Robert and Wanda Sutton of Groesbeck, and Mike and Sandra Sutton of Groesbeck. She also has nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
