Cecil Wayne Lyon, Sr., of Kosse, passed away at Lake Shore Village in Waco on Friday, March 7, 2025, at age 94.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 9, 2025, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, and also at the First Baptist Church of Kosse on Monday, March 10, beginning at 1:00 P.M.
Funeral services will begin at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, March 10, 2025, in the First Baptist Church, Kosse, with his granddaughter, Nicole Good officiating. Burial will follow in Mustang Prairie Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Funderburk, Josh Lyon, Patrick Dyer, Hudson Lyon, Kendall Funderburk and Brandon Funderburk.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Pettigrew, Chance Funderburk, Randy Funderburk, and Mason Green.
Cecil was born in Kosse on July 13, 1930, to George Washington Lyon and Mary Lewis Powers Lyon. He grew up in Kosse where he attended school and was a Kosse Greyhound.
Cecil worked for some years as a truck driver. He moved to Fort Worth in 1960 and began his career working for TXU, in the gas measurement department. The family moved to Kennedale in 1962, where his children grew up, and Cecil coached his boys in baseball on the Kennedale Braves team. He enjoyed deer hunting with the boys for many years. Cecil was a Mason and served on the City Council in Kennedale.
Cecil was united in marriage with Beth Johnston on July 7, 1978, in Fort Worth. In 1987, after he had retired, they moved to the original Lyon land at Denny Switch where they made their home. He stayed busy raising cattle and goats and baling hay. He was a Master Member of the Masonic Eutaw Lodge #233 of Kosse, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Kosse.
After the death of his wife, Beth in 2017, who was the love of his life, his new best friend and constant companion was his dog, Rasca,l throughout the remaining years of his life.
Cecil has been preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beth Lyon; and siblings, Walter Lyon, George Lyon, Bill Lyon, and Mary Helen Mulkey.
He is survived by his son, Cecil W. Lyon, Jr. and his fiancée, Celeste Henson of Rosebud; son, Gary D. Lyon of Bremond; son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie L. and Pam Lyon of Grand Prairie; and daughter and son-in-law, Patricia A. and Tony Ridley of Grandbury. The grandchildren are Cristyn Smith, Nicole Good, Michael Thrasher, Josh Lyon, Misty Lavender, Ray Anderson, and Cassie Null; and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and friends.
