Christen Danielle Bridges Vera

Christen Danielle Bridges Vera, of Groesbeck, passed away at her home on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at age 32.

There will be a visitation and viewing at Groesbeck Funeral Home, beginning at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, May 3, 2023.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Jon Honea officiating.   She will be cremated at a later date.

Christen was born to Leslie Kitchens on May 27, 1990, in Waco.   She grew up with her three sisters in Mexia and graduated from Mexia High School in 2008.    Christen loved to read and would exchange books with her bus driver, with whom she enjoyed discussing what they each had read.   Later, her older sister shared books with Christen from her Nook app.

Christen had worked at several locations, including as night-shift manager at McDonalds and What-a-Burger.   She had most recently worked for AVID in a group home in Mexia, and she loved “her girls” that lived in the home.

Christen and Marvin Lee Vera have been together for the past ten years, and for the last few years lived near Groesbeck.  Christen loved “all things pig” all her life and had a collection of pig items.

Christen had an extremely giving nature; she could never say no and put others’ feelings before her own.  Her two sons were her world, and she also loved her nieces and nephews as if they were her own, and they all loved her.

Christen was preceded in death by her mother, Lesley Kitchens; her great grandmother, Lucille Vest, and her grandfather, Elmer “E.J.” Kitchens.

She is survived by Marvin Lee Vera of Groesbeck; her sons, Marvin Lee Vera, Jr. and Jaxson Vera of Groesbeck; her grandmother, Bonnie Kitchens of Groesbeck; her three sisters and brothers-in-law, Sara and Chris Sherrod of Groesbeck, Hayley and Isaias Villa of Donie, and Brittany and Daniel McNutt of Copperas Cove. Her nieces and nephews are:  Easton Sherrod, Everett Sherrod, and Witten Sherrod of Groesbeck; Maci Kitchens and Brenley Villa of Donie; and Devin McNutt, Kady McNutt and Lesley McNutt of Copperas Cove.   She is also survived by an aunt, Bobbie Hall of Wortham and many cousins.
