Curtis Gene Winn passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2024 with his wife, Jan, by his side.
Curtis was born on March 3, 1946 in Thornton, TX to Bert and Virene Winn. He was the youngest of 3 boys. He grew up in the Thornton area and married Janice Ridge on May 11, 1966, after receiving approval from the Air Force, in which he was enlisted. During his 4 years with the Air Force, he was stationed in North Carolina. While there, on January 25, 1969, their son, Barry Gene was born. After his service in the Air Force, Curtis and his family moved back to Central Texas.
Through the years, Curtis’ entrepreneurial spirit was evident in his numerous successful businesses, including a pawn shop, bail bonds business and self storage facility. He was also a generous supporter of local causes.
Curtis was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting (he had the mounts to prove it!) and fishing. He loved bringing his catch home and inviting family over for a fish fry! He and Jan also enjoyed shooting sporting clays in later years. Even when his health prevented him from participating, he still enjoyed talking about his outdoor hobbies, watching outdoor videos on the Internet and sharing past stories with friends and family.
Curtis is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Janice Winn. Brother, Glynn Winn and wife Jodie. Nephews, David Winn and wife Sheila, Terry Winn, Michael Winn and wife Tara. Niece, Becky Smith and husband Russell. Brother-in-law, Billie Ridge and wife Janet. Niece, Kali Barco and husband Timothy, as well as numerous great-nephews and nieces.
