Daniel Patrick "Danny" Owen

Daniel Patrick “Danny” Owen, of Groesbeck, passed away at his home, peacefully in his sleep, on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at age 57.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Cobb Cemetery, with Revered Tracy Sims of the Central Baptist Church of Thornton officiating.

Danny was born on March 29, 1967, to James Raymond Owen and Mae D. Owen in Houston. He grew up in Houston and graduated from Aldine High School in 1985, where he had participated in FFA. His FFA projects in showing animals and food science classes helped develop his life-long interests in agriculture. From his young years as an Cub Scout, he participated in Boy Scouts through earning the rank of Eagle Scout.   Danny attended Sul Ross University in Alpine, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree and then his Masters’ Degree in Animal and Food Science.

Danny made the move to Groesbeck in 1997, during the drought that year, and pursued his interest in raising cattle. He used his natural mechanical talents and skills to open a tractor and implement repair business located at his home. He also enjoyed fishing as a past time.

Danny was united in marriage with Joycelyn Jones in McGregor on July 10, 2004, and they made their home outside Groesbeck for the next twenty years. 

Danny loved his cattle, raising Charolais and Angus. He delighted in being in the pasture especially when he saw the new calves born, and texting a photo to his mom of the latest bull calves. He also loved spending time with his grandkids. His life revolved around cattle, dogs, cats and family. He will leave a deep void in the hearts and lives of those who loved him.

Danny was preceded in death by his father, James R. Owen in 2018, and his father-in-law, Jack Wilson in 2014. 

He is survived by his wife, Joycelyn Owen; his daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Aram George of McGregor; son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Michaela Jones of McGregor; his mother, Mae Owen of Groesbeck; 5 grandchildren: Kinzleigh Reinke, Wyatt Reinke, Tommy James Patrick Jones, Kathy Jones, and Daisy Jones, all of McGregor; and his brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Janice Owen of Elephant Butte, New Mexico.
