Danita Ross, 55, of Thornton passed away Monday, November 15, 2021 at Baylor Scott & White - Hillcrest in Waco.
A Visitation and public reception will be held on Monday, November 22, 2021, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel.
Danita was born January 16, 1966, in Marlin to James (Jimmy) and Starlet Ross. She grew up in Groesbeck and graduated from Groesbeck High School in the Class of 1984, where she had special good friends.
Danita was very athletic, and grew up playing volleyball with her family, at school, and as an adult. She played many games in the yard at home with her Uncle Randy Shriver and her grandmother, Mary Emma Shriver. Mary Emma played volleyball for many many years, until she was 63 or older, so Danita had a natural love and talent for playing. She also played softball on co-ed teams with Uncle Randy.
Danita was “Daddy’s girl” and enjoyed riding around town with Jimmy Ross, and riding on the back of his wheelchair. She lived most of her life in Groesbeck and in Thornton for some years. She was a good Mom to her son Dakota and will be missed.
Danita was preceded in death by her father and her mother, Jimmy Ross and Starlet Ross; grandparents, Mary Emma Shriver and Adam Thomas; and her uncle, Jerry Thomas.
She is survived by her son, Dakota Ross of Thornton; aunt, Geri Arscott or Norfolk, VA; uncle, Randy Shriver of Lufkin; and cousins, Zack Shriver of Groesbeck, Randa Shriver of Groesbeck, Ethan Shriver of Colorado Springs, CO, Emaleigh Shriver of Tempe, AZ, and Eric Shriver of Lufkin.
