Darlene Virginia Hickman (Jackson) died peacefully in Groesbeck, Texas on December 16, 2024 due to cancer. She was born July 29, 1943 to George and Avy Lee Jackson in Houston, Texas.
Darlene was active in the Baptist church for many years. She served as GA Leader and taught Sunday School in her earlier years, and later led First Place classes at Houston’s First Baptist Church. Her faith and love of Jesus was evident to all who knew her, and she was a fervent prayer warrior even through her last days.
She was a graduate of Massey Business College in Houston, Texas, and was an accomplished book keeper, accountant, and office manager. She managed the office of the family business for more than 40 years.
Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love, care, and prayers of family and friends, carried her through a double lung transplant in 2007. While only half of those who undergo this surgery are still alive after 5 years, her lungs were still serving her well until her last days, over 17 years later.
Married for 63 years, Darlene and Tom raised their 2 children, Tom and Angela, and Darlene faithfully cared for her family through her constant, nurturing love. She was known for her kindness, hospitality, sweet soul, and amazing cooking. She loved hosting large gatherings of family and friends in her home and there was always room for one more. She was happiest when she was serving and caring for others. Her family believed her to be the best cook in the world.
She is dearly missed by husband Tom, son and daughter Tom and Angela, daughter-in-law Beverly, grandchildren Jonathon, Emily and Leela, grandchildren-in-law Taylor and Dylan as well as extended family and friends.
