Don Carroll Booker, age 81, passed away Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Kindred Hospital in Sugarland after a severe illness.
Visitation will be held at Groesbeck Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Faulkenberry Cemetery.
Don was born in Blanco, TX. on November 1, 1943, to Arita Smith Booker and D.C. Booker. Don was almost a Halloween baby, missing by only a few minutes, so he always celebrated on Halloween and Nov 1st. Throughout his childhood, Don attended many schools due to his father’s occupation in road construction, which also was Don’s first job. Don graduated from Groesbeck High School.
Don was a proud Air Force Veteran. He entered in March 1963 and was honorably discharged in March 1967. His tour was in Germany, where he became in love with computers and computer programming. He then attended the University of Texas in Austin.
Don was a computer software developer for city and local counties in Texas. A few of his clients were Denton, Greenville, Brownsville, Columbus and Wharton. His ability to understand the business process requirements of the various offices allowed him to develop cutting-age software.
He loved living in Wharton and was blessed with so many friends, including Ronnie, Sharon, Desi, Susan, Harold and many more. Their giving hearts kept Don going and able to live by himself, which is how he wanted to live. Chatting on the computer with all his friends meant everything to him. He loved watching football and baseball, cooking and enjoyed trying out different recipes. All in all, he loved food! Also, he loved his family, friends, and he loved all animals. He was a man with a kind heart.
Don is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Bryan Waller.
He was preceded in death by his father DC Booker, mother Arita Booker, brother Robert Booker and ex-wife Jean.
In lieu of flowers, please do a kindness for an elderly person. Don’s life was enriched by this kindness.
