Donna Gale Smith

Donna Gale Smith, of Groesbeck, passed away at age 68 on Monday, October 11, 2021, at Baylor Scott and White Hillcrest Hospital in Waco, after a three-week battle with Covid and pneumonia.

A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 15, 2021, at the First Baptist Church of Groesbeck.  Pastor Jon Honea of the Rock Prairie Baptist Church of College Station will officiate.  

Donna was born May 3, 1953, in Memphis, Tennessee to Carlin Cecil Hollie and Margaret Louise (Winter) Hollie. As a young lady, she married Mr. Tinnie B. Smith and they lived in Illinois and had one daughter.

Donna moved to Texas where her parents lived after her husband passed away.  She met David VonCannon of Rosharon, Texas, and they became friends and have made a loving home together for the past twenty-eight years.

Donna and David moved to Groesbeck about 20 years ago.  Donna loved music and had a great collection of music tapes and CDs.

Donna was a wonderful woman with a big heart.   She was a wonderful partner to David and opened their home to anyone needing help, whether family or friends.   She took care of her mother before her death and provided a home to her sister and niece.  She made many lasting friendships through her loving heart.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tinnie B. Smith; a sister, Elaine Nelson; and her daughter, Therasa Ann Baughan in 2010.

She is survived by her husband, David VonCannon of Groesbeck; stepson, Michael and his wife Sarah LeRoux of Groesbeck; stepson, John and his wife Jessica VonCannon of West Columbia; stepson, Tray and his wife, Melanie Kirk of Louisville, Kentucky; grandson, Chris Baughan and wife of Dover, Delaware; Nichole Mariner and husband of Groesbeck and Brandon LeRoux of Groesbeck; many step grandchildren and great grandchildren; a sister, Karen Louise Hollie of Groesbeck; and niece, Skyler Nelson of Groesbeck.
