Dorothy LaNelle Clendenen

August 25, 1939 — April 1, 2021

Dorothy LaNelle Clendenen, 81, of Groesbeck, Texas entered her eternal home on April 1, 2021 after a brave and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. We rejoice in knowing that her mind has been healed, her body has been restored, and she has been made whole.

Dottie was born to Roy and Mattie Carpenter in Jewett, Texas on August 25, 1939. Born into a family of ministers, she was surrounded by a Christian community that was a great source of pride in her life. We can only imagine the joyful heavenly reunion she experienced in death between her and her parents.

Her life’s work was in service to others. Working as an administrative professional was more than just a job to her, but a calling that she embraced for many years. With a lifelong thirst for knowledge, she always strived to better herself and learn new tasks, and her musical skills were no different. Not only was she a piano teacher, a music teacher in Bryan, Texas, and a church pianist, but she also taught herself how to play the accordion and the guitar. Her love of music was evident in her performance style, rattling the keys in her own charismatic way.

Dottie was always known to dream big dreams and chase new adventures. Using her heart and creativity as her guide, she explored new frontiers and discovered more of who God made her to be. Whether she was a mom with a listening ear or a Mimi making Christmas cookies, her pride in her family was evident.

At the core, Dottie loved people, and she never missed an opportunity to celebrate or join together with others. Other than the Lord, her heart belonged to her husband of 65 years.  Jerry loved her well until her last breath, caring for her and taking care of her every need.

Dottie is survived by her husband, Jerry; her daughter, Jan Henegar (Dennis) of Austin, Texas; her son, Jerry Clendenen (Veronica) of Portland, Texas; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Linda Logie.
