Elida Gonzalez Rico

February 20, 1931 — November 15, 2021

Graveside services for Elida Gonzalez Rico, formerly of Mexia, will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Fort Parker Memorial Park Cemetery in Groesbeck.

Elida passed away at home in Flower Mound on Monday, November 15, 2021, at the age of 90.   A Memorial service has previously been held by the family at their home.

Elida was born February 20, 1931, in Matamoros, Mexico, to Andres Gonzalez and Eva Ayala.  She came to the United States as a very young lady and had previously lived in Mexia for many years of her adult life.  She moved to the Dallas area in 2016 to be near her family.

Elida spent her life raising her children and being a wife and homemaker.  She prepared the best Mexican food ever, fed many in her lifetime and taught her daughter Martha how to cook.  She also sewed for her family.  She loved music and in her younger years enjoyed dancing.

Elida was of the Catholic faith, but loved going to other churches, when she had a ride with someone, as she felt all churches to be the house of God.  Her children give her praise for being a wonderful mother and grandmother to a very large family.

Elida is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joel R. Rico, Sr.; 2 daughters, Eva Avelino and Marie Elena Avelino; and a son, Trinidad Abelino (name spelled as it appeared on his birth certificate) in 2018.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jesus (Jesse) Avelino, Jr. and Alice Ann Avelino of Farmers Branch; daughter and son-in-law, Martha Avelino Elton and Michael W. Elton of Lewisville; son and daughter-in-law, Ruben R. Rico and Kelly Rico of DeSoto; son and daughter-in-law, Joel R. Rico, Jr. and Addie Rico of Mansfield; step-daughter and step-son-in-law, Ophelia and Jesse Trevino; numerous grandchildren as well as numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.  She is also survived by two sisters, Elsa Gonzalez and Minerva Gonzalez and a brother, Nazare Gonzales and many nieces and nephews.
