Etta Gay Price

September 7, 1938 — September 12, 2021

Etta Gay Price, of Groesbeck, passed away at home with her family by her side on September 12, 2021. She was loved and adored by many, and she will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held at Groesbeck Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 15, 2021.   Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Brandon Verm officiating.  Burial will follow in Wedgman/Sansom Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Robert Kovar, Tyler Jenkins, Tyler Hull, Stuart Lenoir, Bradley Newland, Garrett Price, Daniel Price and Brad Withrow.

Gay was born September 7th, 1938 in Booneville, Arkansas to Charlie and Rena Belle York. She was the 4th of 6 children – she had 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Her family moved to Grand Prairie, TX in 1943. There is where she met her husband, Donald Ray Price. They had 5 children; Nestor Ray, Timothy Don, Teresa Gay, Tony Wayne and Steven Wayne. In 1974, the Price Family moved to Ennis, TX. Gay was a homemaker and spent her life raising her children. They moved to Groesbeck in 1980. After her husband passed away in 1989, Gay became the facility manager at the training center for Houston Lighting and Power which is now CenterPoint Energy.

All who knew her, called her Mamaw or Ms. Gay. She was an excellent cook and was quite famous for her chicken-n-dumplings (she’s never really shared the exact recipe). Mamaw has 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild. She loved spending time with all her family and friends. Ms. Gay was funny and feisty. Even in her days with advanced dementia, she kept her family smiling and laughing at the funny things she would say and do.

Gay was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son Nestor Ray, and 3 brothers.

She is survived by 3 sons; Tim, Tony, Steve and wife Tanya, her daughter Teresa with whom she lived and who took care of her the last several years; her 13 grandchildren and spouses, 25 great-grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild; with many more to come; and also 2 sisters, Joy Nicholson and Sue Land. Her incredible family is truly her legacy.
