Florence Gaynell Garnett, of Groesbeck, passed away at home with her family by her side, on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at age 92.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 28, 2023, at the Prairie Grove Baptist Church.
Funeral services in the church will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 28, with Reverend Clifton Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Prairie Grove Cemetery. (Church and cemetery are located on FM 1953 between Groesbeck and Mexia.)
Pallbearers will be Keith Retz, Russell Retz, Tuck Traynor, Paul Hurst, Mike Bolton and Ronnie Ferguson. The men of the Prairie Grove Baptist Church will be honorary pallbearers.
Florence was born March 31, 1931, to J E “Dick” Ballew and LaVita (Russell) Ballew in House, New Mexico. She grew up in House and graduated from high school there in 1949.
Florence was united in marriage with KP Garnett on September 24, 1949. Florence was a substitute teacher, before serving in several state offices. She was secretary for the DeBaca and Curry County district attorney, as well as deputy county clerk and secretary to the District Judge.
Florence and KP moved to Limestone County in 1998 after they retired and made their home on a ranch in the LaSalle community. Florence was a member of the Prairie Grove Baptist Church. She loved to play the piano and played for any church that was short of a piano player.
Florence has been preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Verona Vaughn.
She is survived by her husband, K P Garnett of Groesbeck; daughter, Sandra Garnett of Groesbeck; grandson, Tuck Traynor and his wife Stephanie of Amarillo; grandson, Keith Retz and his wife Sarah of Groesbeck; grandson, Russell Retz and his wife Dominique of Groesbeck; great granddaughters, Lauriel Retz of Groesbeck and Samantha Traynor of Amarillo; and her brother and sister-in-law, J E and Carol Ballew, Jr. of Rio Rancho, New Mexico and nieces and nephews.
