Gary Wayne Shugart, of New Caney, passed away at home on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at age 79.
Graveside Services will be held at the Pavilion at Faulkenberry Cemetery in Groesbeck, on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 10:00 A.M., with Pastor Jon Honea officiating.
Gary was born to Leonard and Elsie (Dawley) Shugart in Bryan. After graduating High School, Gary enlisted in the US Army in July of 1965. After serving in the Army, he attended trade school obtaining his licensure to be a hairstylist.
Gary met Judy when she went in to have her hair fixed for an upcoming vacation trip; they met, and their romance began. After dating, and then corresponding for two years while Gary was overseas, they were united in marriage on August 5, 1967. Their wedding was held at Park Place Baptist Church in Houston, where Judy was a Sunday School teacher.
Gary and Judy lived in Houston, living a busy life with her career at United Gas and his two beauty salons, until moving to New Caney where they have lived for the last thirty-four years until Judy’s passing in 2021. Gary considered her the perfect wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt. To Gary, she was his queen, his everything, the love of his life for fifty-four years.
Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Shugart; parents, Leonard and Emma Shugart and brother, Fred Shugart.
He is survived by his sons, Johnny Carraba and Fred Shugart; grandchildren, Kyra Shugart and Kalob Shugart; sister, Linda Duke and husband Ellis; brother, Carl Shugart and wife Dee; many cousins; close family friend, Shaun Bates and many other friends.
