Gerald ‘Jerry’ Lonnie Chapman, 72, of Bremond passed away at home on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 PM on Sunday, February 23, 2025, prior to services beginning at 2:00 PM in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Leeann Freeman officiating. A burial will follow at Bremond City Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Shelton Chapman, Clyde Chapman, D.J. Chapman, Ricky Chapman, Colter Chapman, and Cheyenne Chapman.  Honorary bearer will be Claude Chapman.

Jerry, as he was known to family and friends, was born in Pasadena, Texas on March 11, 1952, to Gerald Shelton and Gwendolyn Imagene (Short) Chapman. He grew up in Lomax, graduated high school in 1970.

Throughout his younger years, Jerry won several belt buckles and awards in his youth as a bareback rider and rode bulls and just about everything else rodeo. He was a bareback rider extraordinaire, rodeo cowboy, rancher, scuba diver, kayaker, fisherman, knotter, carpenter, leatherworker, wood worker and many more things. He never backed away from any challenge and was very creative. He was the greatest Paw Paw ever.

He joined the Operating Engineers Local 178 and began a career in the oil and gas industry as a crane operator supporting turnarounds, maintenance and new construction. He worked for Wyatt Field Service for most of his career working his way up to General Superintendent retiring in 2020. Along the way, he ran just about every type of crane that has been built and was one of the smoothest operators to grace the seat.

Just before retirement, he moved back to Bremond to help his brother Shelton manage the Bremond Ranch.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, brother Claude Chapman.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Cheyenne and wife Christy Chapman of Baytown; daughter and son-in-law Jeralisa and Dwayne Stein, daughter and son-in-law Laurie and Todd Greene, daughter and son-in-law Kaitlin and Rashad Mannings and his four Brothers D.J., Ricky, Clyde and Shelton; nephew Colter Chapman and 14 grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
