Goldie was born November 3, 1928, to George Washington Davis and Mary Susie Davis in Gilmer.     She grew and attended school in Gilmer.

Goldie married Foy Buford LaGrone, whom she had known all her life, on October 17, 1943 in Gilmer.   After he was discharged from the Army, they moved to Houston.   Due to Foy’s work in construction and the oil fields, the family moved many times.  The children sometimes enrolled in 2 or 3 different schools in the same year, and attended 26 schools in their 12 years.  During some of their high school years, they had moved to Gilmer and the 2-1/2 years there was the longest they spent in any one town.

Goldie was not only raising three children, during all the years of packing and moving, but she worked outside the home wherever they lived, in many different jobs, all involving hard work.    Some of her jobs included a hamburger stand, Armco Steel, assembly line work, cleaners, and waitressing.

Goldie had always enjoyed cooking for her family, and after the children were grown, she worked for her son cooking in the restaurant.   She dearly loved her kids and grandchildren.   Goldie was a member of the Peach Creek Baptist Church.  Although Goldie had attended church off and on during her life, she was 70 years old when she was saved.  Once she was saved, she was “on fire for Jesus” the rest of her life.    Goldie remained active, mowing her own lawn till she was 70, until her health began declining in the last five years.  During recent years, she has been welcomed into the homes of her family.

Goldie was preceded in death by her parents; her former husband Foy Buford LaGrone; all of her 7 siblings: Opal, Frances, Louvnie, “Son” George Washington Davis, Jr., “Jack” Clarence Joseph Davis, “Bo” Franklin Delanore Roosevelt Davis  and Mary; and two grandsons, David LaGrone, Jr. and Troy Schultz.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda LaGrone of New Caney; son and daughter-in-law, David and Marie LaGrone of Huffman; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Debbie LaGrone, Sr. of Mont Belvieu; 7 grandchildren and their spouses: Deanna Wilkins, Robert LaGrone, Dannette Sikes, Caree LaGrone, Staci Neathery, Michael LaGrone, Jr., and Amber Hooks; 19 great grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren.
