Ivyl Leovys Shields

April 22, 1930 — May 8, 2018

Ivyl Leovys (Turner) Shields went to meet her Lord and Savior on May 8, 2018.  She left this world in the presence of family, the caring and loving staff of Interim Hospice, and the staff of Skilled Care of Mexia Nursing Facility. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 9, 2019, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, May 10, 2018 in the Chapel of Groesbeck Funeral Home, with Reverend Bill Sutton of the Oletha Baptist Church and Chaplain Jon Honea of Limestone Medical Center officiating. Music will be provided by Mrs. Stacy Duffield, Mrs. Dana Schneider, and Mrs. Brenda Hughes singing at graveside a song Mrs. Shields had requested years ago.    Burial will follow in Seale-Round Prairie Cemetery.Pallbearers will be Chase Sackett, Layne Sackett, Justin Welch, Seth Shields, Zachary Shields, Chase Amick, Samuel Garcie, J.B. Watkins, and Clayton Belinoski.   Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Thomas Davis, Danny Joe Shields, Ricky Welch, and Greg Sackett.  Leovys was born April 22, 1930 to Lloyd and Bertha Eva (Burleson) Turner in Franklin.  On April 5, 1952, Leovys married the love of her life, J. W. Shields in Houston.   Their love story is 66 years old.  They had three children, Stephen, Deretha, and Celinda.  Leovys loved working in her yard, as she had a green thumb.   She also loved playing the piano and painting pictures.    Most of all, she loved her Lord and Savior, her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Leovys was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Bertha; brother and sister-in-law, Holvys and Billie Ruth Turner;  and daughter, Deretha Welch. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Rose Shields of Magnolia; daughter and son-in-law, Celinda and Greg Sackett of Chouteau, OK; son-in-law, Ricky Welch of Groesbeck; eight grandchildren: Leslie Welch of Groesbeck, Chase Sackett of Austin, Justin Welch of Groesbeck, Seth Shields of Magnolia, Zachary Shields of Magnolia, Kayla Garcie and husband Samuel of Chouteau, OK, Shelby Amick and husband Chase of Groesbeck, and Layne Sackett of Tahlequah, OK.; and six great grandchildren: Breanna Welch, Shilo Welch, Harrison Welch, Brody Garcie, Khloee Garcie, and Pasleigh Garcie.
