James Howard (Jim) Baker, of Groesbeck, passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024, at Baylor Scott and White Hillcrest Hospital in Waco, at age 90.
Jim was born on April 26, 1934, to Alvie Lee Baker and Gladys Faye Smith Baker in Reagan. He grew up in the McClanahan Community (Spunky Flatt). After graduation from high school in Rosebud, he attended Temple Junior College.
Jim was a U. S. Army Veteran, and then had a career working for the Veterans Administration, moving to various locations as he was promoted in his administrative work. He retired in 1995 and moved to Groesbeck.
Jim enjoyed dove hunting in his younger years and fishing, and watching the Dallas Cowboys. He was a member of the Church of Christ of Groesbeck.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Glenda; his sister, Betty Jo Chatham; and more recently, his daughter, Donna Baker.
He is survived by his two nieces and their husbands, Sandy and Rick Clary of Waco and Vicki and John Willis of Waco; great nieces and nephews, Heath Mitchell and wife Heather of Mt. Vernon, Brad Mitchell of Dallas, Russell Allen and wife Marcie of Waco, Doug Willis and wife Crystal of Austin, Traci Waddle of Thornton, and Troy Waddle of Thornton.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that anyone wishing to make a donation in memory of Jim donate to the Church of Christ, P.O. Box 512, Groesbeck, TX 76642.
