James Rufus Hunt

James R. Hunt, 89, passed away on March 21, 2021 in Houston.

Graveside services will take place on Friday March 26, 2021 at 2:00 pm at the Ebenezer Cemetery in Kosse, with Pastor Jon Honea officiating.

James was born in Falls County to Raleigh and Gussie Hunt. He graduated from Sam Houston State University and The South Texas College of Law, with highest honors. He served as editor in chief of the law review while at South Texas. He practiced law from 1968 until his death. He married Gail Lillard of Waco in 1960. Together they had three children, namely: Lora Anne, Jamie Elizabeth, and John Raleigh.

He enjoyed working on his ranch in Crockett, Texas, deer hunting, and rooting for the Dallas Cowboys. He was commonly referred to by his friends and family as a character. He always enjoyed a good laugh.

He is survived by his wife, Gail Hunt; children, Lora Ann Swonke and husband Dwane Swonke, Jamie Elizabeth Yuna and husband Jeffery Yuna, and John Raleigh Hunt and wife Sandi Hunt; grandchildren, Caleb James Swonke, Lauren Elizabeth Dasbach, Lydia Mae Swonke, Jacob Ryan Hunt, Jenna Raine Hunt, Sarah Yuna-Fox, Kathrine Yuna and Issac Yuna; and nephew Stephen G. Hunt.  He was predeceased by his grandchildren Taylor Nichole Dasbach, Jordan Mae Dasbach and Graecin Leigh Dasbach.
