James Michael Springer

April 29, 1946 — March 13, 2025

Groesbeck

James Michael “Jim” Springer, 78, of Groesbeck, formerly of Franklin, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2025, in the comfort of his home, following a strong fight with cancer.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Friday, March 14, 2025, in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Rest-Ever Cemetery in Bryan, TX, with John Michalak officiating.

James was born in Nettletown, Mississippi to Clayborn and Lena Mae Springer on April 29, 1946. He was part of a large family, who had moved to Franklin, Texas, where he grew up and graduated from Franklin High School in 1965.

Jim was a welder by trade, and worked in construction, working in various towns and other states during his younger years. He worked on every type of project, from the roofs of 20-foot tall buildings, to underground.

He settled back in the tri-county area of Robertson, Falls and Limestone Counties around twenty-five years ago, and owned a bar, Springer’s Place in Bremond. It was at the bar, where he met Peggy Michalak, who was to become his wife and change his life. They married in 2009 and moved to her home in the Criswell community. Changing his lifestyle, he worked for over 30 years at Bi-Stone Lumber in Mexia. His true passion was wood working, and he had a shop in Mexia for many years. He was covered in the Mexia newspaper after demonstrating his craft and tools for the local school children.

Peggy showed him what love is; she humbled him and caused him to slow down and enjoy life. They enjoyed their years together before her death in 2017. Jim always loved all his children, no matter where they were. He always told each of them “I love you” before parting and he would tell them that he had always wanted to be a loving husband and good father. They recognized his love and knew that he did the best he could with the hand he was dealt and wanted him to know peace in their relationship with him before his death.

James was preceded in death by his father; his dear mother, Mae who lived to the age of 102; many of his siblings: Peggy, Buddy, Alvin, Myrtle, Charlie, Dolly, and Vi; and his dear wife Peggy.

He is survived by children, Michael Springer, Michelle Springer-Blandy, Chad Arnold, Jimmy Springer, and Johnny Springer; stepsons, Rick Michalak and John Michalak and their famlies; his many grandchildren and also great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jerry Scarpinato and Sherry Waters; and his favorite nephews, Doyle Springer and W.D. Waters, and numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family; and also his favorite companion, Rusty.
