Jeffery Lynn Wimberly, Sr., of Kosse, passed away at Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Waco on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at age 69, after a difficult battle with cancer.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, January 22, 2021 at Faulkenberry Cemetery, with his family conducting the service.
Jeffery was born October 15, 1951 in Marlin to Bobby Ray Wimberly and Dorothy (Murkovitch) Pennington. He grew up in Groesbeck and attended Groesbeck Schools, graduating in the Class of 1970.
Jeffery learned to work on his vehicles as a teen-ager and later in life earned his living as a self-taught mechanic. He spent some years in his early life working in the oil field, and then worked for Southern Pacific railroad for ten years.
Jeffery’s interests ranged from playing the guitar to arm wrestling, and in fact he won the Texas State Championship in arm wrestling one year. He was also an avid outdoorsman, collecting arrowheads, camping, hunting and fishing. He also loved to catch up on You-Tube conspiracy theories. Jeffery had lived in the Stranger community near Kosse the past seven years. His children have been his strength during his last two years of illness, and Chris was with him at the time of his death.
Jeffery was preceded in death by his parents, and his grandparents who raised him, Ira Abner “Shang” Wimberly and Mary Helen Wimberly.
Jeffery is survived by his son, Clay Wimberly of Lake Limestone; son, Jeffery Lynn Wimberly, Jr. of Thornton; son, Chris Wimberly of Thornton; daughter, Renee Hill of Clovis, CA; the mother of his children, Kynda Morehead of Groesbeck; a brother, Chris Fischer of Mexia; and many “Amazing” grandchildren and great grandchildren.
