Jerry Bayne Truett

Jerry Bayne Truett, of Kosse, passed away at Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Temple on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at age 71.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 14, 2024, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Groesbeck Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 15, 2024, in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Keith Collier of the First Baptist Church of Groesbeck officiating. Burial will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery at Kosse.

Pallbearers will be Greg Truett, Justin Campbell, Cody Truett, Lynn Grote, Steven Grote and Bradley Truett. 

Honorary pallbearers will be Colson Truett, Corbin Truett, Dale Carpenter and Larry Grote.

Jerry was born October 18, 1953, to Bayne Rex Truett and Peggy (Springfield) Truett in Marlin. The family lived in New Braunfels until he was around three and then moved to Kosse. He started school in Kosse and then graduated as a Groesbeck Goat in the Class of 1972. His high school years included his playing football, track, FFA all 4 years and an officer, and Class Favorite his Junior and Senior Years as well as other activities, and he grew up helping his family in their peanut farming business.

In his high school years, Jerry “burned the road” between Marlin and Groesbeck in his ’70 Chevelle, with brother Ronnie, cousin Larry Truett and best friend Butch Waddle.

Jerry continued travelling the roads locally and around Texas in his adult years, while owning and driving an18-wheeler, and later working for a commercial trucking company. His trucking handle was “Salamander” or best known as “Mander,” due to his young years spent digging in the dirt for peanuts. Considering all the miles he drove in his life, someone once claimed that “Jerry had backed up more than others had ever thought about driving forward in their trucking life.”

One thing he would miss work and “skip a load” for was his boys sporting events, and then for his grandchildren. Since his boys were in school, every June they went to Lake Palestine, and he later loved spending time with the grandchildren there, swimming or playing golf or enjoying whatever they enjoyed. He always carried quarters to pass out to all the kids to play the arcade games. Many happy memories will be held by the sons and family of their Dad and Granddaddy. 

Jerry was preceded in death by his mother, Peggy in 1992, father, Bayne in 2022; and niece, Tammy Jo Campbell in 1996.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law and grandchildren: Brian and Mindy Truett of Temple and their children, Whitley Truett, Kendall Truett, Addyson Taggart, and Presleigh Taggart; and Brandon and Courtney Truett of Groesbeck and their children, Colson, Corbin, and Blakely Truett; brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Marolyn Truett of Groesbeck; mother-in-law, Jane Carpenter; nephew, Greg Truett and his wife Morgan; great nieces and nephews, Tinley, Taryn and Tyler Truett of Groesbeck, Justin and wife Kim Campbell of Stranger and their children, Karsyn, Rylan and Kenadi.
