Dale was born August 8, 1934 in Thornton, Texas to James Riley Cox and Eunice Earl (Hudson) Cox. He was the third of four children born. He spent his childhood in the Reagan and Falls County area. He graduated early from Marlin High School in 1951. In 1952, he married Dorothy Jean (Railsback) Cox and from this unity, four sons were born. Dale and Dorothy raised their boys in the Houston/Pasadena area but later returned to Reagan where they lived the remainder of their life.

Dale worked lots of years with GATX in Hearne where he was a welder. He enjoyed his daily commute to work with the Funderburk brothers for many years until his retirement. He worked diligently for his family and enjoyed camping, traveling, gardening, watching humming birds in his yard, and wood crafting. During his time in the workshop, he produced many pieces of furniture for his children, grand-children, and his home. The most prize possession that Dale had was his grandchildren. Dale and Dorothy had a huge hand in helping raise some of their grand-children who lived right next door. The countless sleepovers, working in the shed, dipping bread in peanut butter and syrup, picking up pecans in the backyard, or even just sitting under the shade tree enjoying talks were just some of the things he enjoyed with his kids and grand-kids. Dale loved his family and a huge hole is missing in their hearts since he has left this earth.
