Lucas "Luke" Timothy Baker

August 21, 1980 — November 9, 2019

Lucas Timothy Baker, better known to all as Luke, passed away at Irving, Texas on Saturday, November 9, 2019, at age 39.

An informal Memorial service to celebrate the life of Luke will be held in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, November 24, 2019, with visitation beginning at 1:00 P.M. and the service at 2:00 P.M.  Brother Richard Williams of the Church of Christ of Groesbeck will officiate and his brother Jared Baker will speak.

Luke was born August 21, 1980 to Kenneth Grady Baker and Deborah Oakley  Swearingen in Peoria, IL.   He and his parents moved back to his father’s hometown of Groesbeck, TX. when he was one and one-half years old.   He grew up in Groesbeck, attending Groesbeck schools through his Junior year, and then moving to Gilmer with his family, where he graduated from Gilmer High School in 1999.    Luke had been playing baseball since age 4 with his Dad and his friends coaching the T-Ballers, and played baseball and football in high school.    He was also a really good saxophone player in the high school band, marching on the field at half-time in his football uniform.   While he was growing up, happy times were spent each summer with family and friends at Concan, tubing on the Frio river.

After graduation, Luke continued to live in Gilmer and work in the Longview area.  He worked for a number of years with a painting contractor and then for himself, painting houses.  He worked as a pest control operator for ten years, and then worked the past five years for “Sign Remedy,” a sign installation company.   He lived and worked in Irving, learning his skills on the job in building the signs and  working out of a bucket truck installing them.   He liked this work alot and really liked his boss, Chris Prideaux.

Luke enjoyed fishing and watching sports and he liked talking politics.  He loved his family very much and was happiest at Thanksgiving and Christmas when he could be with them.  He dearly loved his daughter Landrie more than anything else in the world.

Luke was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Grady and Dorothy Baker; maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Mary Oakley; and step-grandparents, B.C. and Audrey Hill, as well as many other relatives.

He is survived by his daughter, Landrie Grace Baker of Gilmer; mother, Debi Swearingen of Peoria, IL; father and step-mother, Ken and Beth Baker of Longview; sister, Kendra Baker and partner, Rene Beth of Bedford; brother and sister-in-law, Jared and Natalie Baker of Spring; niece, Hadley Rose Baker of Spring; step-sister and brother-in-law, Sonya and Marshall Mitchell of Longview; step-brother and sister-in-law, Lance and Patty Kirby of Dallas; and his special aunt and uncle, Karyl and Randy Butler of Fairfield.     There are also many other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Church of Christ of Groesbeck, TX.
