Lyndon Truett Phelps, of Kosse passed away at Limestone Medical Center in Groesbeck on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at age 78.
Open visitation will be at the Groesbeck Funeral Home Monday and Tuesday from 8-5.
Funeral services will be held privately by the family.
Lyndon was born January 15, 1942 in Kosse, TX to Quincy and Nona (Truett) Phelps. He grew up in Kosse, the son of a peanut farmer. He graduated from Kosse High School and continued his education at Sam Houston University. He was an honorably discharged veteran. Lyndon worked many years for Petro-Tex in the Pasadena area.
Lyndon was an avid bridge player and through playing bridge, he met and later married Peggy Priest on November 5, 1983 in Houston.
Lyndon and Peggy later built a home in Kosse where he enjoyed ranching and raising cattle. Lyndon and Peggy regularly traveled to Waco and Temple several times a week to play in bridge tournaments. They enjoyed playing in competitive bridge tournaments and traveling all over the United States and several foreign countries. Lyndon earned the status of Life Master in American Contract Bridge.
Lyndon was an active life member of the Kosse Church of Christ. He also oversaw Ebenezer cemetery for many years.
Lyndon was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Peggy Phelps; brother, John Howard Phelps.
Lyndon is survived by his sister-in-law, Wynell Phelps of Pasadena; sister-in-law Paula Stanley of Kosse; nephews, Steve and Jana Phelps, Ken and Alicia Phelps, Minor Stanley, Patrick Stanley and Jason and Jacqueline Probst as well as numerous great nieces and nephews and extended family.
