Margarett JoEleene McLelland

JoEleene Shamblin McLelland was born on January 1, 1931, in Groesbeck, TX.  She passed away on Friday, September 29, 2023, at age 92.

There will be Visitation in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, October 6, 2023, from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2023, in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Keith Collier of the First Baptist Church of Groesbeck officiating.   Burial will follow in the Faulkenberry Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Lee McLelland, Nathan Harvey, Glenn McLelland, Adam Samuel, Brian Lane, Leeman Samuel, and Conner McLelland.   Honorary pallbearers will be her great grandchildren and Mark McLelland.

JoEleene was the daughter of Joe and Margarett Shamblin.  She graduated from Groesbeck High School in the Class of 1948 and attended one year at Westminster College in Tehuacana, TX. 

JoEleene married her high school sweetheart, David McLelland, on June 11, 1950, in the First Methodist Church in Groesbeck.   They moved to Fort Worth, TX. and lived there 35 years.  While there, she was a faithful member of St. Marks United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women’s Group.   She helped with the MYF, worked each year in Vacation Bible School, and was a Cub Scout Leader for two years.

Moving back to Groesbeck in 1984, she became a member of the First United Methodist Church, Tejas Sunday School Class, Methodist Women’s Group, Shakespeare Club, and the Groesbeck Study Club.   She always felt close to her school classmates and was active in organizing the 1948 class reunion.

JoEleene loved her husband and her children, always opening her home anytime they could come, wanting to fix meals and picnics and was always happy for them to bring their friends.  Christmas was one of her favorite family get-togethers.

JoEleene is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, David.

She is survived by three children and their spouses:  Michael and Dixie McLelland of Groesbeck, Donna and Rodney Samuel of Weatherford, Joel and Deana McLelland of Fort Worth.  Her nine grandchildren are: Lee McLelland, Leslie Lane, Laura Cotto McLelland, Adam Samuel, Leeman Samuel, Glenn McLelland, Taylor Harvey, Conner McLelland and Morgan McLelland, and there are fourteen great grandchildren.
