Maria was born January 18, 1966, in Progreso, Mexico to Pablo Santana De Lara and Candelaria Santana Sanchez. She was united in marriage with Lazaro Perez Salazar on December 18, 1984 in Mexico.
Maria lived a life devoted to her family. She made sure that she always provided the best of care for her husband Lazaro, who she later called Grandpa as the family increased. She was a great mother for all her children and then for each of the grandchildren. She loved having all the family together and cooking for them, including the family friends, especially on the holidays.
Maria enjoyed raising pretty flowers and was always outside tending them. She loved making her home pretty, inside and outside.
Everyone loved Maria’s cooking, especially her enchiladas, tamales and menudo. The family would also enjoy eating out together after church, and on special occasions. Her favorite place was Olive Garden and that was where she enjoyed her birthday celebration with her family last week.
Maria was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mexia. She was a strong woman, who took care of everyone else first, especially her husband. She never complained about anything, even during the long battle she fought with cancer for the past six years. The family’s love and admiration for her strength will live in their hearts forever.
Maria was preceded in death by her father, Pablo De Lara and her mother, Candelaria Sanchez and a sister, Elsa Salazar.
She is survived by her husband Lazaro Salazar; children: daughters and sons-in-law, Vanessa Salazar and husband Jose Saldivar and Marisol Salazar and husband Tre Craig; son and daughter-in-law, Lazaro Salazar, Jr. and Evelyn Salazar; granddaughters, Aubrey Craig, Alexis Rivero, and Stephanie Saldivar; and grandsons, Xavier Salazar, Lorenzo Salazar, and Ezekiel Salazar. She has four brothers, Pepi, Hugo, Alvardo and Elroy; and six surviving sisters, Dora, Nina, Caitalina, Elva, Elda, and Panchita.
