Michael Stanley Howell

July 30, 1958 — February 13, 2025

Mexia

Michael Stanley Howell, 66, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his wife and daughters, on Thursday, February 13th, 2025, at Hillcrest Hospital in Waco, TX.

Mike was born on July 30th, 1958 to Wilburn and Marye Ann Howell in Palestine, TX, and was the oldest of their four boys. He graduated from Westwood High School in 1976 and worked for ALCOA and Medivac, before beginning his 37-year career at NRG Power Plant in Jewett, TX, where he retired in 2019.

Mike had three children that he loved with his whole heart: Jenna, Julie, & Jordan. He loved to hunt, fish, play golf, and strum the guitar with his son Jordan. He loved watching Jordan play baseball and Jenna and Julie play softball and spent a small fortune buying them equipment, installing batting cages in their backyard, and toting them back and forth to out-of-town practices and tournaments over the years. He was a loving, funny, and protective father throughout their childhoods and made it his priority to teach them about Jesus.

Mike met his current wife, Nohemi, in 2010 and they were married for over 14 years. He loved Nohemi very much and was drawn to her beauty, her sweet spirit, and her love for the Lord. Nohemi and “Michael”, as she always called him, enjoyed praying together, reading God’s Word together, and watching movies together. They shared a home and land together in Mexia, TX, where Mike could often be found checking his game cameras in search of a big buck.

His legacy will live on through his children, who will always fondly remember him for his great sense of humor, fierce protectiveness, and deep-rooted faith in Jesus Christ.

Mike is survived by his wife, Nohemi Howell; children, Jenna (Joel) Jenkins, Julie (Chase) Newman, and Jordan (Anna) Howell; stepchildren, Janie (Jim) Marler, Raymond (Rosa) Leininger, Veronica (David) Wagoner, and Robert (Kim) Leininger; grandchildren, Avrey, Joely, Adam & Houston Jenkins, and Joslyn, Emma, Amisty, Willow, and Olive Howell; mother, Marye Ann Howell; brothers, Jerald (Carolyn) Howell, Johnny (Phyllis) Howell, and Scott (Alana) Howell. Mike also had numerous nieces, nephews, and step grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Wilburn Howell.
