Michael John Nicholson went home to be with his Lord and savior on April 17, 2024, after a valiant fight with cancer.
Michael was born in Rock Island, Illinois on July 16, 1948, to Delbert John Nicholson and Jo LaRue Prather Nicholson.
He is survived by his two sons, Robert Nicholson and Thomas Nicholson of Austin, TX; his brother and sister-in-law, Patrick and Jewel Nicholson; his sister, Debra Finn; and sister and brother-in-law, Deanna and Troy Bianchi; and many nieces and nephews. His brother, Donald Baedaro preceded him in death on March 9, 2024.
Michael was a career military man and a US Veteran of the United States Air Force. After 20+ years with the Air Force, he retired to Austin, TX. where he worked for several government contracting companies as a technical writer.
As a young man with the Air Force, his favorite pass time was hunting in the woods of Wisconsin. To hear him tell the story, he was quite good. He was also quite the computer nerd. He built his first computer in the basement of his home while stationed at Roam, NY. This was before computers were in every home and he never lost his love for this technology.
After retiring from the work force in Austin, he moved to Lake Limestone with his long time partner and best friend, Patricia Nelker. He traded his hunting skills for a fishing pole. His favorite pass time became sitting on the porch of their home and waving at his neighbors leaving for their day on the water.
Michael was a generous and kind man and loved people. He would make everyone feel at home with his calm and friendly demeanor. Every once in a while he would bring out his 15-year old self with his humor, and he thought he was quite funny. You really needed to know the man to get his humor, but he was a joy to be around, and he will surely be missed.
I Thessalonians 4: 13-18: "But I would not have you ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet with the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words."
