Patsy Ann "Pat" Green

Patsy Ann “Pat” Green, of Old Union, passed away at Groesbeck LTC on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at age 84.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at Old Union Cemetery, with Reverend Bill Sutton of the Oletha Baptist Church officiating.

Patsy was born April 27, 1940, to John Gilbert Hughes and Ruby Madelle (Ingram) Hughes at Old Union in the family home. She grew up in the Old Union community and attended school at Groesbeck, where she graduated from Groesbeck High School in the Class of 1957.

Patsy moved to Houston, where relatives lived, to begin working. 

She met Michael “Mickey” Owen Green from Mexia, and they were united in marriage in 1963. They lived around the Austin and San Marcos area, where she was proud to work at various jobs to help Mickey complete college. At one time she was working three jobs during the same period of time. After her children were born, she considered being their Mother as her primary job, and any other job she took had to work around her family. 

In 1991, they moved back to her family land at Old Union, and she worked ten years at the Old Union store. She was a member of the Oletha Baptist Church. 

Patsy planted flowers each spring and enjoyed what she called “piddling” outdoors. She loved arranging her home and decorating for all the seasons and holidays, and the family had “better notice” what she had done. She loved having all the family together, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas, and they expected her good dressing (although she was not fond of cooking.) Patsy was a big football fan, enjoying college games on TV, and especially the Dallas Cowboys. She stayed loyal to the Dallas Cowboys at all times, and even kept a shrine to the Cowboys in her home.   

Patsy was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Huck Hughes and Rastus Hughes; sister, Polly Bumpers; and her husband Michael in 2020.

She is survived by her daughter, Terri Strickler of Weatherford; son, Scott Green of Pflugerville and son, Eddy Green of Groesbeck; granddaughter, Ashley Deluna and her husband Myles of Weatherford; grandson, Logan Stricker and his wife Nia of Weatherford; great granddaughter, Marley Deluna of Weatherford; brother and sister-in-law, Butch and Alma Hughes of Thornton; sister, Linda Meredith of Groesbeck; and nieces and nephews.
