Phillip Wayne "Phil" Webster
November 24, 1955 - September 13, 2023
Phillip Wayne Webster of Groesbeck, Texas, died Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at age 67.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at the Faulkenberry Cemetry Pavilion in Groesbeck. Pastor David Snow of the Shiloh Baptist Church will officiate the service, with traditional Firemen Honors.
Known as Phil to all his friends and associates, he was born November 24, 1955, to Zelma (Treece) Webster and J.L. Webster in Houston, Texas, along with his twin sister Phyllis. Phillip was graduated from Eisenhower High School in Houston where he studied the trades of air conditioning repair and electronics. Afterwards, he worked at an area machine shop, for Xerox copier repairs and in the parts department for Lester Goodson Pontiac.
In the late '70s, Phillip pursued his dream of moving to the country, particularly Groesbeck, Texas, where he had spent many summers with his grandmother surrounded by other Webster relatives and friends. Once there, he thrived in a more rural environment, enjoying fishing, hunting and trail riding. He soon undertook a new profession as fireman/EMT for the Mexia Fire Department while also repairing lawn mowers and farm equipment. He was known as an excellent small engine mechanic.
Phillip retired from the Mexia Fire Department, but volunteered for the Groesbeck Fire Department in various roles for the rest of his life. He opened his own lawn mower repair shop and was employed as a caretaker for a local ranch while also taking an active role in the community. He particularly enjoyed helping with fundraisers for the fire department and Riesel Lion's Club, where he served in many roles including president.
Phil's capacity for caring was well known. He had a big heart. And he did not believe in doing anything "halfway." He gave his all to any project that he undertook. Phil will be greatly missed.
Phillip was preceded in death by his grandparents Roy and Mary Webster as well as parents Zelma and J.L. Webster. He is survived by his sister Phyllis Webster, her husband Jack Lawless and their family along with extended family members.
In lieu of flowers, please make any donations honoring Phil to the Groesbeck Volunteer Fire Department.
