Richard (Ricky) Keith Rand, 68, of Groesbeck, Texas passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2023.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 12, 2023, in the Pavilion at Faulkenberry Cemetery, with Dr. Keith Collier of the First Baptist Church of Groesbeck officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Harryman, Mark Champion, Cliff Rampy, Cap Prince, John Hatley, George "Cupe" Adams, Wesley Pittman, Jerry Bomar, Jim Longbotham, Josh Caldwell, Chip Phillips, Kevin Copeland, Jason Trojacek, Jeremy Trojacek, Marty LeNoir, Mika Morgan, Hershel Hoover, Oscar Rodriguez, Jaime Rocha, Ty deCordova, Cody deCordova and Chris Rand.
Ricky was born on June 17, 1955 in Beech Grove, Indiana. He was the beloved youngest son of Randall and Jane Rand. When he was six, the family relocated back to Texas where Ricky discovered his love for all that it meant to be a Groesbeck Goat. This love will always be something he is remembered for by many generations of young Goats that had the opportunity to hear one of his locker room pep talks, or simply his voice from the stands most every Friday night. During high school, Ricky was active in all sports; he played his heart out for his school and town, and was a devoted Groesbeck Goat throughout the entirety of his life.
Ricky was blessed with three children, Michele, Keith, and Nicole, during his 24-year marriage to their mother Lisa deCordova. They raised their children in Groesbeck where he worked alongside his father and brothers at Rand Oil Company. One of his greatest joys was watching his children continue the tradition of representing GHS, and even greater, was the joy he had watching his grandchildren continue the tradition of, not just being Goats, but being athletes and representing their schools with the same pride he always had. On March 8, 2002, Ricky married the love of his life, Tammy Kaye Hatley, welcoming her two children Chance Lowenthal and Ashleigh Rand with loving arms.
Ricky will forever be remembered for his support and loyalty to Goat football, and while he would never cheer on another high school football team, he also just loved the sport. He was an avid Texas A&M and a Dallas Cowboy fan, and if you never got the chance to discuss their seasons with him, you definitely missed out.
Ricky had a passion for the things he cared about that could not be ignored. When he loved, he loved big, never halfway, and his love extended much farther than Groesbeck or football. He was a devoted son, brother, uncle, Poppy and husband, but his family included, not just them; his family was all of Groesbeck, the town that he loved. It will be very difficult for all that knew him to imagine a Groesbeck without Ricky Rand and his undying support.
Ricky is survived by his loving wife Tammy Kaye Rand; his children, Michele Terry and husband Mikey of Maypearl, Keith Rand and wife JJ, Nicole Pringle and husband Derek, Chance Lowenthal and Ashleigh Rand, all of Groesbeck. He is also survived by his brothers, Doug Rand and wife Marlene; Don Rand and wife Mary, also of Groesbeck. Ricky is also survived by his grandchildren: Madison, Jake, Macy, Kylie, Tyson, Bryce and Adleigh, along with many nieces, nephew, cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Randall and Jane Rand and his granddaughter, Mika.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to make donations to the Groesbeck Athletic Booster Club (donations for this may be mailed to Farmers State Bank, P. O. Box 499, Groesbeck, TX 76642.)
