Sandra Sue Brown

January 23, 1944 — October 17, 2018

Sandra Sue Brown, of Oletha, TX., went home to be with the Lord, on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, in Baytown, TX., at age 74. Visitation will be held in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel (1215 E. Yeagua, Groesbeck, TX.) on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, October 21, in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Ken Worley of the Lake Limestone Baptist Church officiating.   Burial will follow in Cox cemetery (located on FM 3371 a short distance off FM 937 in the Old Union community.) Pallbearers will be Devin Brown, Jeron Brown, Jarrod Oakley, Kasey Oakley, Steve Wiese, and Buck Leavins.   Marcus Oakley will be an Honorary Pallbearer.   Sandra was born on January 23, 1944 to Orville Smith and Josie (Gamel) Smith in Dallas, TX. and grew up in Houston, TX.   While she was working as a waitress at a café, a handsome railroad worker named C.W. Brown (from Limestone County, TX.) came in the café every day, not just to eat but to flirt with Sandra.  Sandra and her love, C. W. Brown, were united in marriage on August 8, 1962 in Richmond, TX.   They lived most of their lives in Houston before moving to Deer Park, TX. in 1981. Sandra was a loving and adored wife, mother and grandmother.  She loved gospel and country music, and while working for a brief period of time at Watkins Western Wear, a highlight of the job was meeting country singer Gene Watson.  She was a homemaker and dedicated mother most of all, and a caregiver to her elderly mother and other friends and family.  A few years after her husband passed away in 1993, Sandra made the move to Limestone County, where she and C.W. had already bought property in 1983 and had planned to move there when he retired.  She became an active member of the Oletha-Old Union, TX. community, making friends and helping in the activity of the Oletha Community Center and Jamboree.   She was able to recruit outside entertainers to perform at the monthly Jamboree.   Sandra had a close relationship with the Lord and was a member of the Lake Limestone Baptist Church, attending services as long as her health permitted.     Although she was a gentle soul, above all, Sandra was a resilient lady in all areas of her life, especially in her battles with cancer over many years.   Her faith and positive attitude and cheerful nature endured during not just one cancer, but during five different occurrences of cancer. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, C. W. Brown. She is survived by two sons and daughters in law, Kerry and Debbie Brown of Cypress, TX. and Darryl and Sonja Brown of Baytown, TX.; six grandchildren: Jeron Brown of College Station, TX., Kyra Brown of Cypress, TX., Devin Brown of Virginia Beach, VA., Jarrod Oakley of Baytown, TX., Kasey Oakley of Baytown, TX.  and Marcus Oakley of Baytown, TX.; four brothers and their wives: Don and Inez Smith of Arkansas, Mike Smith of Baytown, Ronnie and Susan Smith of Louisiana, and Ricky and Connie Smith of West Virginia; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
