Shannon Dale (Lackey) Smith, of Waco, passed away at Baylor Scott and White Hillcrest Hospital in Waco on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at age 62.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at the Pavilion at Faulkenberry Cemetery, Groesbeck, TX.
Shannon was born September 23, 1959, in Morton, TX. Some of her happiest years were spent on her grandparent’s farm there. She was a very creative, bright little girl with a big imagination. Her schooling began in Pampa, TX, later attending schools in Perryton and Andrews and completing her high school years in Kermit. She excelled in school, was a member of the Honor Society, Student Council, Band and Theater Arts. Her sense of humor and way with words will always be remembered. She could turn any situation into a funny story.
Shannon continued her education at McMurry College and eventually finished at Sul Ross in Alpine, with a degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology. She worked several years for construction companies building CO2 plants in west Texas and Wyoming. Her son, Joshua Colby Ford was born to Shannon and her husband, John Ford in Wyoming. They later moved back to the Kermit area where she worked as Program Coordinator for the Texas Youth Commission. She transferred to Marlin, working at TYC there. Shannon later worked several years at Best Western.
Shannon and Max Smith married on June 27, 2018. They had good times spent on the river, and hunting arrowheads, which was one of her favorite activities. When Shannon’s health began to fail, Max was by her side helping to care for her.
Shannon was a Baptist, saved and baptized at age 12 in Perryton, TX.
Shannon was preceded in death by her father, Kirby Lackey; and grandparents, Hughes and Louise Smith and Wesley and Agnes Lackey.
She is survived by her husband, Max Smith; son, Joshua Ford and grandchildren, Bailey, Dravin and Jacie. She is also survived by her mother, Mary Ann Lackey; her sisters, Suzanne (Brian) Hall and Sarah (Robert) Martinez; her mother-in-law, Tilie (Francisco) Rios and members of the Smith family; niece, Alison Murray and nephew, Gage (Lindsey) Murray; nieces, Mia (Bo) Puckett, Eva and Clara Martinez; great niece, Bodie Puckett; an uncle, aunts and many cousins.
