Sue Wynell Funderburk - Mills

Sue Wynell Funderburk-Mills, of Kosse, passed away at home on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at age 79.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 24, 2021 in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 25, 2021 at the First Baptist Church of Kosse, with Pastor Jon Honea and Pastor Ricky Waller officiating.  Burial will follow in the Kosse City Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Kendall Funderburk, Brandon Funderburk, Chance Funderburk, Stephen Magnes, Ronnie Funderburk, Randy Funderburk, and Kent Wilson.   Honorary pallbearers will be Jermaine King, Cecil Lyons, and the deacons of First Baptist Church of Kosse.

Sue was born on December 8, 1941 to Ross E. Swingler and Mamie Aline (Lewis) Swingler in Marlin.  She graduated from Thornton High School.

Sue married James Darwin Funderburk and they had three children.   She lived in Kosse most of her life and mainly raised her family, although she had worked at times in the Alico building in Waco.

Sue was known to cook using everything except the kitchen sink.   She collected everything, most notably, her station wagons and giraffe figurines.

To her grandchildren, Sue was Mamaw and special memories are held of her trips to Kemah Boardwalk and vacationing at the beach.  Anytime her kids or grandchildren went on vacation, when they got back she expected a seashell or rock from their trip.

Sue and the “girl gang” enjoyed ladies’ trips, eating catfish on Friday nights at the Café and day trips to yard sales.

Sue married Joe Pat Mills in 2001.  She was active in community activities in Kosse, including the Hearne-Gidden house, Economic Development Community, and the Kosse Heritage Society.  She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Kosse.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, James Darwin Funderburk; husband Joe Pat Mills; sister, Betty Swingler and brother, Billy Ross Swingler.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Jennifer Funderburk; daughter, Robbie Pettigrew; and son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Misty Funderburk; grandchildren, Kendall and wife Jennifer Funderburk; Chelsea Watson; Chance and wife Jayme Funderburk; Jessica and husband Kent Wilson; Kaitlyn and husband Stephen Magnes; and Brandon Funderburk.  The great grandchildren are: Jaci, Lane, Braxton, Weston, Kenlee, Hollie, Wyatt and Rhett.  She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Darlene Swingler and extended family.
