Susan Judith Milstead

September 13, 1952 — June 3, 2019

Susan Judith “Susie” Milstead, of Kosse, passed away peacefully at home Monday, June 3, 2019 at age 66.

Susie was born September 13, 1952 in Austin to Robert Lamar Allen, Sr. and Ozie Marie Guidry Allen, who have preceded her in death.  She grew up and graduated from high school in Austin.

Susie was united in marriage with Jack H. Milstead in Austin on May 9, 1975.  After living in Austin they moved to Houston.   Susie began a career with Getty Oil, which was bought out by Texaco, which was bought out by Chevron.  At that time, she retired from Texaco after working thirty-five years in Houston.

Susie and Jack moved to their ranch outside Kosse, and Susie went to work at the Mexia State School where she retired again after ten years.  Susie was a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church, and after moving to Kosse she was a member of FUMC at Groesbeck, and the past few years attended the Church of Christ in Kosse.

Susie was a Godly woman.   She was devoted to her husband, her son, daughter-in-law, grandson, family and friends.  She was a bible school teacher and youth leader when Jackie was growing up.  She entertained the church youth group at her house on a regular basis.   She was room mother for all the years Jackie was in school.   She led a life of service.   She hosted many showers for friends and family.  She made sure that church had beautiful flower arrangements that she made.  She lived the life of a virtuous woman that is described in Proverbs 31.  She was loyal, trustworthy, hardworking, kind and generous to everyone.

Susie accepted that Parkinson’s was the path that God had chose for her.   She accepted her illness with grace.  As her disease progressed and up until a couple of weeks before her battle ended, she never missed church.  She would walk in, as weak as she was, with a smile on her face and hugs and handshakes to those that were there.   She leaves an example for all of us to follow.  Her memory will forever be a part of us.  She was humble and never realized how many lives she touched and the difference she made in all of our lives on her short earthly journey.

She is survived by her husband, Jack H. Milstead Sr. of Kosse; son and daughter-in-law, Jack H. “Jackie” Milstead, Jr. and Baily J. Gonzales Milstead of College Station; grandson, Kaden Gonzales of College Station; sisters and brothers-in-law, Diana and Al Brannan of Dallas and Sharon and Dewayne Barr of Fort Worth; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Margie Allen of Michigan and Charles and Patty Allen of Weatherford; and numerous nieces and nephews.
