Tommy Joe Sellers, of Kosse, passed away at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, November 4, 2024, at age 61. Tommy had fought a hard battle with glioblastoma the past 8 months but was the victor over the disease as he has now entered Paradise.

Visitation will be held at Groesbeck Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at the Ward Street church of Christ in Marlin, with Brother David Johnson and Brother Mark Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Eutaw Cemetery (LCR 707, Kosse.)

Pallbearers will be Keith Sellers, Bryan Sellers, Kevin Sellers, John Martinez, Joe Guerro, and Jordn Villalon.

Tommy was born June 30, 1963, in Abilene, TX. to Tommy George Sellers and Barbara Ann (Kelly) Sellers. He lived in many different towns while growing up, while his father worked in welding, with LaGrange being the one town that felt most like a hometown.

While Tommy was working in Kosse at U.S. Silica, he met a Kosse girl through a mutual friend, and this developed into their union for the rest of their life. Tommy was united in marriage with Kathy Lynn Wright on August 24, 1984, in Groesbeck, and they made their home together in Kosse where they raised their children.

Tommy worked at Nucor in Jewett for over 20 years, while developing his self-owned welding business on the side. He was a master craftsman welder, having learned welding from his father as a young fellow, and developed his skills into his full-time work for a period of time. Later in life he attended truck-driving school in Waco and drove trucks all over the United States for 8 years before he retired. Tommy was also proud of his skills in all areas of carpentry work and used those talents in working on his own house.

He enjoyed fishing in his early years and playing his guitar all his life. His whole family were self-taught guitar players. At family gatherings, they would pick and sing while Kathy played the piano. He enjoyed listening to all types of music.

A special family memory was when all of Kathy’s family would gather at her grandparents after church on Sundays to eat and sometimes play and sing together, and it was an opportunity for the kids to visit with their cousins and aunts and uncles.

Tommy enjoyed studying the Bible and was a teacher in adult Bible Class on occasion. He had a beautiful voice and was the song leader on a regular basis. He was baptized at the Kosse church of Christ and for many years attended the Ward Street church of Christ. He loved his whole family and adored his grandchildren who called him Pop-Pop.

Tommy was preceded in death by his father, Tommy G. Sellers (6-6-2019); his granddaughter, Kyli Jeanette Sellers (8-26-2001); father-in-law, Leldon Dwayne Wright (5-19-14) and mother-in-law, Willie Mae Wright (9-4-2020.)

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Kathy Sellers of Kosse; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and John Martinez of Rockdale; son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Samantha Sellers of Kosse; son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Shelby Sellers of Kosse; son, Kevin Sellers of Kosse; his mother, Barbara Sellers of Cisco; sister and brother-in-law, Ruthie and Joe Guerro of Kosse; brother, George Sellers of Cisco; brother, John Sellers of Kosse; grandchildren, Asher, Eden, Landon and Bailey Sellers, Jordn, Kenzie, Jaxon, Jayci; and many nieces and nephews.
