Wanda Virginia "Jean" Harper

August 1, 1934 — January 9, 2020

Wanda Virginia “Jean” Harper, formerly of Groesbeck, passed away at her home in Normangee on Thursday, January 9, 2020, at age 85.

Visitation will be Friday, January 10, 2020 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 11, 2020 in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Carolyn Munsey of the United Pentecostal Church of Normangee and Pastor Dan Grisby of the United Pentecostal Church of Madisonville officiating.    Music will be provided by Kristy Barrow and Orville and Patty VanWinkle.   Burial will follow in the Lost Prairie Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Justin Perkins, Kenneth Bilodeau, Christopher Bilodeau, Brandon Bilodeau, Lucas Bilodeau, and Michael Rose.

Wanda was born August 1, 1934 to John H. Lummus and Zora Lee Lummus in Groesbeck, where she grew up and attended school.    

Wanda was a housewife and mother during her lifetime, raising her children in Groesbeck.  Later in life, she moved to Normangee, then lived on the coast awhile, and during the last ten years of life, she lived with her son in Normangee.  

Wanda was a good cook, and liked to sew and crochet, and loved her plants.   She was a loving mother, and was very loved by the grandchildren, who called her Grandma Honey.  She was active until her health began to fail in the past year.

Wanda was preceded in death by her father and mother, John and Zora Lee Lummus; spouse, Cecil C. Harper (1996); son, James Bilodeau (2005); son, Kenneth Bilodeau (2012); granddaughter, Carrie Lynn Bilodeau; sisters, Cora Lee Robinette and Florence Simmons; brother, J.W. Lummus; sister-in-law, Carri Bell Lummus; and sons-in-law, Kenneth Zimmerle and Albert K. Hall.

She is survived by seven children and their spouses: Patricia and Samuel Barrow of Thornton; Shirley and Deton Whisenhunt of Early;  Johnnie Zimmerle of Brazoria; Vivian Hall of Thornton; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Sherry Harper of Madisonville; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Rosemary Harper of Navasota; daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Marshall Perkins of Branson, Mississippi; 31 grandchildren; and a host of great grandchildren.
