Willie Carl Wedgman, of the Oletha community, passed away at Hillcrest Hospital in Waco on Saturday, August 7, 2021, at age 77.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Groesbeck Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 12, 2021, at Wedgman Cemetery, with Brother Glenn Easterly of the Old Union Church of Christ officiating.
Willie was born November 15, 1943, to Henry Wedgman and Hattie (Padgett) Wedgman in Groesbeck, one of five boys in the family. While growing up the family lived in Marquez, Centerville, Madisonville and lastly in Groesbeck.
Willie worked earlier in life in law enforcement, in Pasadena and Houston, as a correctional officer in Centerville, and at Hilltop Lakes.
He left law enforcement to work for himself as a mechanic for the remainder of his life. At one time he worked for three garages in Jewett, a garage between Groesbeck and Mexia, and always would go to where he was needed when called.
Willie and his life partner of forty years, Maureen Fulton, have lived at Oletha the past twenty years, after moving from Jewett.
Willie liked fishing and hunting, but especially loved to sing and play the guitar. He sang by himself or Karaoke, or with others, and not bashful in singing in public, and was often seen singing at the bar in Thornton and the bar at Old Union. He loved to joke and play pranks on people.
Willie was preceded in death by his parents; all four brothers: John Henry, Curly, Mann and Hamp Wedgman; grandchildren, Leann, Alyssa, and Angel Fulton.
He is survived by his life partner, Maureen Fulton; son, Ray Fulton of Limestone County and his children, Heather, Trenton and Ray Jr.; son, Henry Wedgman of Tulsa, OK; son, Duke Fulton of Bryan and his children, Megan Towery and husband Ryan Towery, Kamryn Fulton and his grandchild Witten Towery; daughter and son-in-law, Trisha Matthews Ellis and husband Jeremy Ellis of New Waverly and their children, Mandie Shelly and husband Joshua Shelly and Savannah Ellis, and their grandchildren, Jackson Shelly, Natalee Shelly, and Jace Shelly; and son and daughter-in-law, William “Bubba” Wedgman and wife Deserae of Groesbeck and their children, Devon Wedgman, Brandon Wedgman, Kesley Wedgman and Faith Nicholson.
